Denis Gallant

The Honourable Denis Gallant holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Sherbrooke and a Master's degree in Law from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). He has been serving as a municipal judge in Quebec since 2024.

Prior to his appointment as a municipal judge in Quebec, Judge Denis Gallant pursued a legal career as a lawyer spanning nearly 35 years. He has served as a provincial and federal Crown prosecutor, Deputy Chief Prosecutor for the Charbonneau Commission, and the first Inspector General for the City of Montreal. At the time of his appointment to the bench, he was serving as Director of Penal and Criminal Prosecutions for the City of Montreal. As a judge, his duties included chairing the Commission of Inquiry on the Management and Modernization of the SAAQ's Information Systems.

He also taught criminal law for more than 25 years, notably at the Quebec Bar School and the University of Quebec in Montreal. The Quebec Bar awarded him the distinction of “Lawyer Emeritus” (Distinguished Lawyer) in 2011, and the University of Quebec in Montreal awarded him the UQAM Recognition Award in 2019.
