Mathieu Stanton holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Université de Montréal, along with an Honours degree in Political Science completed at McGill University and the University of Ottawa. He is a member of both the Law Society of British Columbia and the Barreau du Québec and has been a prosecutor with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada since 2012.

Prior to joining the PPSC, Mathieu Stanton practiced as a litigator at Heenan Blaikie, in the area of constitutional law. Earlier in his career, he acted as defence counsel, served as an advisor to a Canadian parliamentarian, and worked as a parliamentary legal researcher. He completed his articles at the Montreal Legal Aid Office.

His present practice encompasses all areas of criminal law, with a focus on appellate litigation. He has appeared before all levels of court, including the Quebec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
